SDS Hosts Week of Action for Rasmea Odeh, 8/31 through 9/4
Between Monday, August 31st, and Friday, September 4th, Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) chapters and affiliates are holding a Week of Action for Rasmea Odeh, in preparation for her appeal in the fall.
Rasmea Odeh is a Palestinian activist who has dedicated her life to building the Palestinian solidarity movement in the United States. She was captured by the Israeli Defense Forces and physically and sexually tortured, which resulted in complications with her immigration process into the United States. Now, even as a naturalized US citizen, the federal government has put her on trial under threat of deportation in order to weaken the anti-war movement and the movement for the self-determination of Palestine, of which she has become an important icon.
SDS chapters and affiliates will be hosting fundraisers for Odeh’s defense, postering events, courthouse rallies, and other actions to demand an overturn of her bogus conviction of immigration fraud. Her appeal will take place in the fall of 2015, in Cincinnati, Ohio, on an undisclosed date.
The Committee to Stop FBI Repression, one of the key organizations building public support for Rasmea Odeh, is hosting a Week of Action the week after SDS’, between September 8th and 14th. For any folks, on- or off-campus, who want to participate in building for Odeh’s appeal, there will be more than enough opportunity throughout the month of September.
