National Students for a Democratic Society is happy to announce that we will be joined by Sara Flounders as one of our keynote speakers at the upcoming SDS National Convention. Sara Flounders has been active in progressive and anti-war organizing since the 1960s. She is co-director of the International Action Center (IAC) and co-authored and/or edited 10 books the IAC published on U.S. war and sanctions against Iraq and Yugoslavia, on U.S. use of depleted uranium weapons, on Haiti and Colombia, and on opposing military recruiters. She writes regularly for the Marxist Workers World newspaper, and speaks on U.S. imperialist aggression on alternative and corporate media outlets.
Sara will be speaking on numerous topics, but especially how to build an effective anti-war movement at this time. She recently returned from an anti-war delegation to Syria where she saw firsthand not only the devastation wrought by imperialism but also the stalwart resistance of the people of Syria to these attacks. Sara Flounders’ message calling for a strong anti-war and anti-imperialist movement remains more important now than ever as the US continues its threats against the Syrian people.
Speaking on the importance of building the student movement Sara said, "Students have a big stake in opposing US imperialist wars that rob youth of a future. Linking the endless wars abroad to the growing war of repression and austerity at home can transform the student movement and provide revolutionary dynamism."
