Students for a Democratic Society at UCF win award and donation in fight for free speech.

ORLANDO, FL - October 19, 2006 -A local Orlando law firm, Weston, Garrou, DeWitt, & Walters [WGDW], recognized SDS at the University of Central Florida for “commendable activism in connection with freedom of speech issues.” Thursday, October 19, on the steps of a U.S. courthouse and federal building, members of SDS were presented with a plaque and donation.
“With the current assault on personal liberties, especially the restrictions on speech and creative expression, Americans must, now more than ever, demand that their core values be defended at all costs,” said Lawrence Walters, a partner in the firm, and long time Free Speech advocate. “We are very proud to recognize the achievements of these young community leaders who are exercising their right to political expression. This plaque and donation serve as a token of our appreciation for these student activists.”
“We encourage all Americans to join in celebration of this week and exercise this core American liberty. It is as easy as writing a letter to the editor, wearing a shirt or button with a message, or posting a blog online,” says Walters. “With a critical election only weeks away, and the important issues facing us all, everyone’s voice should be heard,” he added.
